Thursday

Hi everyone, We had a huge day today. Left Paris at about 8.30am and drove for about 3.5 hours to Normandy. Went to Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery  near Reviers. There are 2049 graves here 320died on Dday and the rest in the battles that followed. Went to the Juno Beach center and walked on Juno Beach. Drove past Gold Beach (British sector) stopped at Arromanches-Mulberry Harbour ( man made breakwater towed here from Britan on pontoons and sank here to make a harbour to  land supplies to support the allies as they advanced. About 5 we went to the Memorial Museum for peace in Caen. This is an amazing place but we only had 1.5 hrs here as it closes at 7pm. Had Pizza for supper at a pizza restaurant on the canal in Caen. We also saw the fortress in Caen where William the Conquerer had his home base but had no time to explore it as it also closes at 7. Tomorrow we have a talk by a WW2 french resistance fighter named Monsieur Vicon who is a French war hero. I will explain more about him tomorrow in my blog. Tomorrow Dieppe hopefully us Canadians will have a better reception there than we had in 1942. We also visit Honfleur where Samuel de Champlain left France for Canada. Will try to post a few pictures.

  3. Wow! Do you think you'll go back on your own sometime and spend more time looking at things? Do you need a second photographer on that trip? haha - glad you're enjoying it all :)
